As the impeachment trial for Donald Trump continues, new security footage presented on Wednesday during the trial showed that Officer Eugene Goodman is truly a heroic man, and there were more efforts that were performed than we initially knew about.
According to NBC News, Delegate Stacey Plaskett, one of the House managers prosecuting Trump at his Senate trial, showed footage of the incident which took place on January 6th. In the footage, Officer Goodman could be seen helping to redirect Senator Mitt Romney in a different direction and away from the mob of rioters as they made their way inside of the Capitol.
Romney looked on as Plaskett played the footage and later spoke about the incident and said, “I was very fortunate indeed that Officer Goodman was there to get me in the right direction.”
Hours later after the trial adjourned, he was spotted speaking with Goodman and said, “I expressed my appreciation to him for coming to my aid and getting me back into the path of safety and express my appreciation for all that he did that day.”
Previously, Goodman had been recognized after footage from inside the Capitol showed that he lured rioters away from the Senate Chamber after they breached the Capitol.
He was later promoted to acting Deputy Senate Sergeant-at-Arms, and also escorted Vice President Kamala Harris during last month’s inauguration.
